Waffles made of puff pastry

Waffles made with homemade puff pastry are a simple yet delectable treat! It’s a taste explosion with its crispy core and edges, your favorite fruit, and whipped cream. An ideal recipe to try over the weekend.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of XXL puff pastry – 375 g
  • sweet additions: powdered sugar, whipped cream, fruit
  • For savory additions: slices of ham and cheese, ketchup

Waffles made of puff pastry

Take the XXL sheet of puff pastry out of the refrigerator before you roll it out to avoid the dough collapsing. A longer, narrower piece of dough is created by folding the rolled-out sheet in half. To shape the dough into a rectangle, fold it in half again. Spread it out so that it can be cut into four equal-sized pieces that fit the waffle iron’s heating trays precisely. I used rectangles to cut the dough into four equal pieces.

Advice: The dough does not need to be folded. Shapes to fit the plate measurements can be cut out right away. At that point, the waffles will have fewer “sheets” and be somewhat thinner. To fit your waffle iron, you can also fold the dough in different ways.

Apply a very little layer of oil to the waffle iron’s clean plates (just for the first series of waffles). Close the waffle iron and set the heat to the highest setting. On each dish, place one sheet of sliced dough. Shut off the waffle maker.

The power of my waffle maker is 1300 W. Waffles are done when they have baked for five minutes per serving. When it comes to waffles created with puff pastry, periodically checking to make sure they’re well-browned won’t cause anything to happen. Check the amount of time required for the waffles to bake to perfection after the first batch. Bake each waffle for the same amount of time after that.

Puff pastry waffles turn out to be flaky and crispy. I suggest topping them with whipped cream and dusting them with powdered sugar after baking. I also add bits of jam, bananas, or canned peaches during the winter. When fresh fruit is in season, you can choose strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.

If you want to make savory puff pastry waffles, I recommend that you just spread out the puff pastry board, roll it out slightly, and then cut it into an even number of rectangles, approximately equal to the size of the heating plates in the waffle iron. Place a slice of cheese and ham on one sheet, but smaller than a piece of puff pastry to keep the edges free. Place the second sheet on top of the sheet with the additions and press the edges. This way, the baked waffle will have joined edges and juicy ham and stringy cheese inside. Cover the baked waffles with ketchup.

Enjoy your meal.
